What an amazing night. It just feels too surreal at this point. First a couple people start showing up with these Bike Friday Haul-a-Days and parking them in the back yard. They bring food. Then more people with more food and drinks. The back yard is filled with people and Haul-a-Days.
Then connections are made. Interesting conversations occur all around me. Dave busts out the Pedal Power tunes. The kids get into the hot tub and the food, conversations, and drinks continue. A crazy array of Haul-a-Days are lined up. Wow, Lyn that purple is awesome. Matthew, that candy apple red has Austin lusting. The whole Bike Friday crew customization is amazing. Alan’s prototype e-assist. Oh so much to admire.
Of course, it wouldn’t be the MacRhodes house if there weren’t crazy kids and meltdowns but luckily Missy took it all in stride and powered through (thanks love).
All that was awesome…then Sam with Open Air Cinema sets up his Haul-a-Day to project a movie on the mobile movie set-up. We watch random videos (from making duct tape wallets to Fat Boy Slim). More food, connections, and sharing. People start to trickle out. More bike powered videos, then it’s Liz Canning’s mini-documentary on Xtracycle. Minds blown… the circle of cargo bikes, long tails, history, utility, community, human power, revolution, daily life, bikes, the future….all right here in our back yard. Such good stuff. I’m a very happy, lucky man.
